The Turtle Island, Serangan, Bali

The Turtle Island that located in the southern part of Bali can be accessed from the beach of Tanjung Benoa with Glass Bottom Boat. With 15-20 minutes journey, visitors are treated to a beautiful view of Tanjung Benoa sea from a long box like an aquarium in the middle of the ship. As an inducement so that the fish would approaching, the crew spread some pieces of bread and the fish began to come even though only one type of fish approaching, zebrafish.

Turtle Island itself is a breeding place for three species of turtle namely the Green Turtle, Hawksbill Turtle and Olive Ridley Turtle. But from dozens of baby Olive Ridley turtles, only some of them were able to survive. Interestingly of these turtles, when a baby they were blackish green colored, but they will be white when they are older (about 5 years).

Turtle Island

On the island, the ponds of turtle are split according to age. The most large pond containing moms of Green turtles and Hawksbill Turtles aged over 35 years. The difference between Green and Hawksbill turtles lie in their shells. The green turtles are smooth shelled and the ends of the shell are not flaky like the Hawksbill Turtle. Their meal is different. The hawksbill eat shrimp and small fish, they can survive for 100-years, while the Green Turtle eating sea grass and can survive a 2-fold longer than the hawksbill.

Besides turtles, there are also other types of animals in Turtle Island. There is hedgehog, a pair of sea eagles, mountain eagle, iguanas, a few pairs of bats, rangkok birds, snakes, and parrots. Most of the animals are tame, visitors can freely take pictures with them.

On the island also features a restaurant and a shop selling various souvenirs made of turtle shell molt. After being around, on the outside of the door there is a donation box to feed the animals there.
